I hope that you have a blessed Christmas with your family and friends and a fantastic 2013!

Lessons to be learned

October 29, 2012 — 6 Comments

graveAbout a week or so ago, I read about two young people who committed suicide within the last week. One of those young adults was a local man. Each of them left public messages as to why they were choosing this route. Their stories have haunted me since. These kids were lonely, depressed, and bullied. Continue Reading…

Domestic Violence

October 11, 2012 — 4 Comments

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

I just finished reading a fiction book about domestic violence and it’s been weighing heavy on my heart since. In fact, it was so heavy on my heart, that I dreamed about it last night. To say that my dream was disturbing would be an understatement. When I woke up, I knew I had to write about this subject that is still very “hush-hush” to this day, even though it is definitely more out in the open than it used to be. The chapter opens up with this great quote:

“God hath given you one face, and you make yourselves another.” ~William Shakespeare, Hamlet

Freeman reminds us of the old Halloween masks that had holes for the eyes and nose and a tiny slit for the mouth. Do you remember those? Behind those masks it would get hot and sticky and sweaty and hard to breathe. After a while we would give up on the mask and take it off, feeling relief. Those of us who are hiding eventually feel that way as well. And our hiding keeps us from speaking out or speaking up for ourselves when we need to. It keeps us paralyzed with fear and anxiety when we should and could be dancing in freedom. Continue Reading…

What is true revival?

September 21, 2012 — 3 Comments

With all the happenings down here in our small town, the question was brought to my attention, “What does revival look like? How will you decidedly know when a revival is taking place? What would be the signs? Is that what you see?”

Now, before we go any further here, I want you to take a minute and think about how you might answer those questions. Continue Reading…

When God moves in a small town

September 20, 2012 — 8 Comments

In my little town of Kountze, Texas, God is moving big time!! I cannot tell you how excited we are! If you haven’t already heard about it, our local high school cheerleaders chose to create the signs that the football team runs through with Scriptures on them.

Please note that they did not do this under a teacher’s supervision, it was the students choice. They did not do this with school supplies or on school time. This was done at one of their houses and was done with their own supplies. Continue Reading…
