About a week or so ago, I read about two young people who committed suicide within the last week. One of those young adults was a local man. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
I just finished reading a fiction book about domestic violence and it’s been weighing heavy on my heart since. In fact, it was so heavy on my heart, that I dreamed about it last night. To say that my dream was disturbing would be an understatement. When I woke up, I knew I had to write about this subject that is still very “hush-hush” to this day, even though it is definitely more out in the open than it used to be. Freeman reminds us of the old Halloween masks that had holes for the eyes and nose and a tiny slit for the mouth. Do you remember those? Behind those masks it would get hot and sticky and sweaty and hard to breathe. After a while we would give up on the mask and take it off, feeling relief. Those of us who are hiding eventually feel that way as well. And our hiding keeps us from speaking out or speaking up for ourselves when we need to. In my little town of Kountze, Texas, God is moving big time!! I cannot tell you how excited we are! If you haven’t already heard about it, our local high school cheerleaders chose to create the signs that the football team runs through with Scriptures on them.
Please note that they did not do this under a teacher’s supervision, it was the students choice. They did not do this with school supplies or on school time. This was done at one of their houses and was done with their own supplies. Continue Reading…
